To-do list app Reel ideas, from 300 real App Store reviews

Part of: Reel ideas by app category

To-do app reviewers describe their head before they describe their list: a million things floating around, an overwhelmed ADHD brain, a family tired of reminding them. Here's what 300 recent reviews say, and the Reels that come out of it.

What do to-do list app users actually say?

We read the 300 most recent US App Store reviews of 5 popular to-do list apps, written 5 Nov 2025 to 4 Oct 2026. People bring their whole life into these apps: 57 reviews mention work, school or family. ADHD comes up in 27 reviews, and 24 of those are 4 or 5 stars; reminders (32) and widgets (15) are what keep the list in view. The anger is about reliability: 31 reviews mention crashes, bugs or lag, and just 4 of those are happy. A bug costs more trust here than in most categories, because people put their whole day in the app.

Which moments are worth a post?

The before-moments to-do reviewers describe:

  1. A million things floating around in your head. One reviewer finally had "somewhere to put them that doesn't make me feel even more overwhelmed." The overflowing head is this category's opening scene.
  2. Seeing 50 tasks and understanding why you're tired. A reviewer said seeing over 50 tasks validated why they'd been feeling overwhelmed. The list as proof, not pressure, is a fresh angle.
  3. An ADHD brain that dumps, then drifts. Reviewers with ADHD praise brain dumps broken into small tasks, and planning the next day at night so they can sleep without their head spinning.
  4. The family who had to remind you. One reviewer says their family is relieved they no longer have to keep reminding them. That's a story with two sides, perfect for a two-character Reel.
  5. Every planner app, tried and dropped. "Tried every one on the App Store" and the search for a "one and done" app recur. The hook is the graveyard of abandoned apps.
  6. A task that silently moved to 5pm. The sharpest complaints are about reliability: repeat tasks that drift, checkmarks that lag, widgets that go blank. Show stability if your app has it.

  6. adhd brain dump: 3 minutes, 22 things, 1 thing i'll do now
  7. the task was 'reply to email'. it took 4 days.
  8. crossing something off is the best part of my day. sad? maybe.
  9. monday 9am. i already forgot what i promised on friday.
  10. my to-do list was on 4 sticky notes and the back of a receipt
  11. one big vague task vs the same task in 5 small ones

Three post formats that fit to-do list apps

Brain-dump Reel

Ninety seconds sped up to ten: a person typing everything out of their head into your app, the count climbing, then sorting into today and later. It turns the most-mentioned relief in these reviews into something you can watch.

Big task, small steps carousel

Slide 1 is one vague dread task ("do taxes"), slides 2 to 4 split it into 3 tiny steps, slide 5 is it checked off in your app. Reviewers with ADHD describe exactly this as what works.

Night-before planning

A 15-second Reel at 10pm: phone on the pillow, tomorrow planned in 5 lines, lights off. It speaks to the reviewers who say they now go to bed without their head spinning.

How this page was made: Apple's public App Store review feed (US store), most recent reviews first, up to 60 per app, read on 5 Oct 2026. Phrases are counted by a script, once per review; the moments, hooks and formats are drafted with AI from those reviews and checked by me.
