Note-taking app Reel ideas, from 300 real App Store reviews

Part of: Reel ideas by app category

Note-taking reviewers are students, residents and people running their whole household from one app. They love handwriting they can search and hate losing notes, paywalls on old work, and AI pushed in their face. Here's what 300 recent reviews say, and the Reels that come out of it.

What do note-taking app users actually say?

We read the 300 most recent US App Store reviews of 5 popular note-taking apps, written 13 Aug 2026 to 4 Oct 2026. This is a tense category. 49 reviews mention crashes, bugs or lag, and just 5 of those are happy; price and paywalls draw 56, with 14 happy. AI is a sore point: 42 reviews mention it, only 9 kindly, often asking for a plain notes app. The love goes to studying (47 reviews), organising and search (40), and handwriting on an iPad (19 mention a pencil or handwriting).

Which moments are worth a post?

The study-desk moments behind the reviews:

  1. Hauling huge textbooks around. A surgery resident who spends "a ridiculous amount of time with huge textbooks" has used one notes app for about five years. Heavy books to one iPad is a clear visual.
  2. Handwritten notes you can never find again. A philosophy student needed to hand-write but also save and search, and tried a long list of apps before one did both.
  3. Chaos in the brain. One reviewer with ADHD wanted an app to organise the chaos in their brain, and found customising it made organising fun.
  4. Back to grad school after years away. A reviewer has used the same notes app since going back to grad school over ten years ago. Returning students are a real audience.
  5. Old notes locked behind a new paywall. The angriest reviews are about not being able to open years of notes without paying. If your notes stay the user's, make that a post.
  6. Wanting a notes app, not an AI app. Several reviewers liked their app better before AI went front and centre. Calm, human-first note-taking is a position you can own.

11 hooks for note-taking app Reels and carousels

First lines for a Reel or a carousel's first slide, each grown from one of those moments. Swap in your own number, time or place.

  1. my backpack used to weigh 11kg. it was the textbooks.
  2. i handwrite everything and i can still search it. witchcraft.
  3. found my notes from week 2 of med school in 4 seconds
  4. the night before the exam, every lecture on one screen
  5. back to school at 38. my notes look better than at 19.
  6. my brain has 40 tabs. my notes app has 4 folders.
  7. i just want to write things down. no ai, no clutter.
  8. the notebook i lost on a train had 3 months of notes in it
  9. colour-coding my notes is the only part of studying i enjoy
  10. one ipad, one pencil, four years of college
  11. i wrote it down somewhere. now i know where.

Three post formats that fit note-taking apps

Backpack to iPad Reel

Empty a heavy backpack onto a desk, then the same semester on one iPad, page-flip by page-flip. Students and residents are the happiest reviewers here, and the weight is something everyone gets.

Search my handwriting

A 10-second screen recording: type a word, the handwritten page jumps up. It answers what students say they couldn't find anywhere else: handwriting with search.

Study setup carousel

Slide 1: "how i take notes for a 3-hour lecture." Slides 2 to 4: the template, the colours, the review. Slide 5: the exam-night view. Organising is one of the most-loved topics, and setups get saved.

Turn this into a week of posts

Notes apps compete on feel, so show the hand on the screen and the note found in seconds. Your own reviews will tell you whether your users are students, residents or people running a household. The free hook generator does it for one App Store link: paste yours and it reads your recent 4 and 5★ reviews and writes hooks and a carousel outline. Slide-Easy goes further on your Mac: it reads your App Store page and reviews, writes a week of Reels and carousels with disclosed AI characters, and renders them locally. First 7 posts free, then $49 once.

How this page was made: Apple's public App Store review feed (US store), most recent reviews first, up to 60 per app, read on 5 Oct 2026. Phrases are counted by a script, once per review; the moments, hooks and formats are drafted with AI from those reviews and checked by me.
